Fed: Australia's Pacific solution to expand

Australia's Pacific solution is set to expand with Papua New Guinea agreeing to a requestto temporarily accept 1,000 Middle Eastern asylum seekers.

As part of the agreement between the two countries, PNG has received a guarantee fromCanberra that no asylum seekers will remain in the country after they have been processedfor refugee status or repatriated to their home nation.

In September last year, the PNG government agreed to an Australian request to accept216 asylum seekers, who have all now been processed and are being readied for onward movement.
