After 17 years of nursing, Troy-born and Scotia-raised Echo Heron, speaks her mind about caring for the sick, listening to patients and abhoring hospital practices she said are downright life-threatening for patients.

She's also very funny. If she was older and in worse condition, you could call her fiesty.

In her third book, ``Condition Critical, The Story of a Nurse Continues,'' Heron gives the rest of us a nurse's eye view of life in a hospital. The book is a sequel to her 1987 book, ``Intensive Care,'' which documents her experiences in nursing school and later nursing burnout.
