NSW: Games laws should not allow hunting in national parks
The NSW Agriculture Minister RICHARD AMERY says the state opposition wants to allowgame hunting in national parks.
The government's Game Bill passed through parliament's lower house last night.
It says will regulate the hunting of pest and game animals across the state.
But Mr AMERY says the opposition wanted to change the bill when it reached the UpperHouse to allow a two-year trial for game hunting in national parks.
He says the opposition also wanted a newly formed Game Council to have the power toadd extra species to its list of game.
In a statement, Mr AMERY says the proposals are inappropriate and would undermine theintent of the bill and also the balances and safeguards currently built into it.
Animal welfare groups and environment groups have condemned the plan, but Mr AMERYhas defended his proposed guidelines saying it is better to regulate hunting.
